String Quartet No. 1 in F major
This project is Jess King’s first official string quartet composition. Featuring 2 violin parts, a viola, and a cello, this piece takes a sweeping journey. Beginning with a quaint melody in F major, it finds itself supported by a syncopated rhythm in the viola, that shifts into a nest of triplets while the melody finds another version of itself. Through a transition, the piece falls into Db minor. This section is in harmonic motion, traveling through scale degrees. The minor line is powerful, and ultimately brings us back to the peace of the initial melody.
